Company history: a success story!

The company began its activities in Froges, near the city of Grenoble in the French Alps, with the development of one of the first horizontal strip casting machines and the filing of its first patent in 1958.

The company subsequently developed under the name SCAL Engineering, and later Pechiney Aluminium Engineering (PAE), driven primarily by the worldwide success of the horizontal continuous caster Jumbo 3C. Following its integration into the Pechiney Group, the company expanded its expertise through the development of vertical DC slab and billet casting machines, as well as advanced liquid metal treatment systems, including ALPUR® degassers and molten metal filtration solutions (CFF and PDBF).

In 2005, following the acquisition of Pechiney by Alcan and the creation of Novelis as a spin-off entity, the company became known as Novelis PAE, continuing to build on its strong technological and metallurgical foundations.

In 2026, the company entered a new phase of development with its acquisition by the Bruno Presezzi Group, an industrial group specializing in advanced mechanical and engineering solutions. As part of this new chapter, the company was renamed PAE Technologies, reflecting both its heritage and its integration into a broader industrial ecosystem, while reinforcing its commitment to innovation, engineering excellence, and customer-focused solutions.

This first prototype was built by Pechiney engineers in 1956 to cast strips of up to 400 mm in width and produce coils weighing up to 500 kg.

The modern continuous strip casters (Jumbo 3C® – 3CM®) made by PAE Technologies produce strips of up to 2 500 mm in width and coils weighing up to 25 tons.
